Over the past decade, vehicle tracking technology has continued to advance in meeting the demands of Industry professionals that are concerned with lowering fleet costs while increasing fleet safety.

GPS tracking technology is used in a wide variety of Industries that include: Law Enforcement, Military, Emergency Services, Fleet Management, Public Transportation, Long-Range Trucking Companies, Mining Equipment, and even Ocean Vessels.

GPS tracking systems may be used in dispatch systems to improve the efficiency of vehicle use as well as to provide audit information showing vehicle utilization. In addition to efficiency gains, vehicle tracking systems provide enhanced site safety and security where site managers have the ability to instantly see where all vehicles are, and can re-route vehicles dynamically to meet changing requirements.

Some vehicle tracking systems allow events at the vehicle to be transmitted back to the control center such as door opening or closing, vehicle loaded or unloaded, and 'panic' button depression for emergencies. The monitoring of these events at a central control center allows the system manager to monitor the state of each vehicle, and also the 'cargo' (passengers, patients, stock, etc) being carried by the fleet of vehicles. Emergency notifications provide a significant safety factor in many industries such as taxi and bus transportation which may be prone to hijacking.
